Man In Court Over Bombs Found In Flat
A Londonderry man has appeared in court in connection with bombs found in a flat in the city on Monday.
Anthony Thomas Friel, of Gartan Square, was remanded in custody and will appear via videolink in Londonderry Magistrates Court on June 7.
He is charged with possession of three improvised explosive devices with intent to endanger life or cause serious damage to property and possessing articles connected with the commission, preparation, or instigation of terrorism.
A PSNI detective constable told District Judge Barney McElholm he believed he could connect the defendant to the charges.
Defence solicitor Kevin Casey said he would be making a bail application for his client in due course.
Anger erupted among residents of Maureen Street on Monday when they had to leave their homes following the discovery of viable explosive devices in an empty flat.
Resident Paddy McDaid said: "I have a nine-year-old and a two-year-old and it caused so much disruption. These people who left the bombs have no regard for the safety of others. There are main gas lines close by so it could have been a catastrophe."

PSNI Confirms Flag Violence Arrests
The PSNI has confirmed a total of eight arrests were made as a result of disorder over the Belfast City Hall union flag issue. Three police officers were injured when missiles ranging from petrol bombs, paint bombs, fireworks and heavy masonry were thrown by loyalist protesters. PSNI vehicles were attacked with hatchets and sledge hammers.

Pipe Bombs, Gunpowder And Cocaine Seized In Drogheda
Pipe bombs, gunpowder, cocaine, a large quantity of ammunition and suspected Alprazolam tablets have been seized in Co Louth. Garda discovered the haul during the search of a property in Drogheda at around 11pm on Thursday, 23 April. A number of homes in the area had to be evacuated during the search.

Tobermore Alert Ends As Device Removed
A second security alert in Co Londonderry within 24-hours has been cleared. A crude device was found outside a vacant property on Main Street in Tobermore on Friday morning. It has been suggested that the device may have been thrown at the house but failed to go off. The alert began around 7.
