Newry Start-Ups Celebrate International Success
Three tech start-ups that originated in Newry, Co. Down, and are rolling out their products and services across the globe, will come together to share their success stories with business peers and aspiring entrepreneurs this week.
The three innovative tech start-ups – Kallsafe.com, a new smartphone application designed to protect children whilst using the Internet; Phlok.com - a cooperative social media platform to maximise customer building; and local social media business, SocialClix.biz all originated in Newry based incubation centre, Empowering Change in Emerald Valley.
Founded by American entrepreneur and business coach, Eve Earley last year, Empowering Change in Emerald Valley provides affordable office space for start-up businesses and has become a hub for entrepreneurship along the Dublin to Belfast corridor.
At the Empowering Change in Emerald Valley Summer Showcase event this Wednesday from 5.30pm, the leaders of each of the three businesses will share their experiences - from concept to the international marketplace.
KallSafe.com founder and director, Mark Rothwell-Brooks from Silicon Valley will outline and demonstrate the new smartphone application, which is designed to help parents protect their children from the hazards of bullying and harmful anti-social behaviour. The innovative app uses geolocation, analytics and time limits on Internet access to give parents more control over their children’s online access. With the help of Empowering Change in Emerald Valley, the product has already been launched successfully to the US market earlier this month and into the UK market on 18th June.
Phlok.com/Phlok.me founder and director, Paul Graham will discuss why the time has come for customer loyalty club cards to meet the viral marketing power of Facebook & Twitter – on a cooperative social media platform that’s all about customer relationship building. A demonstration will show how one merchant can harness the reach of every participating customer’s average 200 “friends”. The product is being readied for its global launch following its roll out across Ireland.
SocialClix.biz founders Eavan Brady and will also talk about how their unique local perspective and focus on creating a social media presence and a micro specialised businesses makes them a welcome addition to this field.
Commenting on the Empowering Change in Emerald Valley Summer Showcase, founder Eve Earley said: “The entrepreneurial ecosystem in Newry & Mourne has never been stronger. Empowering Change launched this enterprise in the “Emerald Valley” as a commitment to marketing that message to the world.
“We’re proud to have supported these three businesses along the way and hope that their stories will help to further inspire the growing culture of entrepreneurship developing in Newry and beyond.”
