Turkish Court Hears From Murdered Women's Relatives
A County Down woman has given evidence in Turkey at the pre-trial hearing of a man charged with the murder of her mother.
Marion Graham and her best friend Cathy Dinsmore, both in their 50s, died after suffering multiple stab wounds in a forest near the city of Izmir in August 2011.
Newry woman Shannon Graham told the court that her mother and Recep Catin, one of the accused, were friends and there were no violence between them.
Recep, 22, was Shannon's boyfriend and he and his father Eyup are both charged with the murders.
Speaking through an interpreter, Shannon said that she and Recep had never thought about getting married.
Ms Dinsmore's brother, George Dinsmore, also spoke to the court to ask for the longest possible sentence for anyone convicted of the women's murder.
Shannon was on a boat trip when the killings happened and called police when she realised her mother was missing.
She is among a group of relatives who have travelled back to Turkey for the hearing.
Her ex-boyfriend Recep was appearing in a juvenile court until now because he claimed he was 17 years old, but a bone marrow test revealed he was 22.
The court will sit again in September.
