Mini Olympics For Charity - Beer Bellies Welcome
On the day of the official Olympics opening ceremony in London, Belfast will have its own 'mini-Olympics' contest for charity.
While visitors to the Big Smoke will be watching director Danny Boyle's recreation of a 'green and pleasant land', visitors to Malone Rugby Club will see it onscreen and also get the chance to compete in hurdles, a 500m relay, a tug of war and an obstacle course.
Organisers from the Northern Ireland Cancer Fund For Children said beer bellies were welcome and competitors "did not need to be super-fit".
A barbecue will be laid on and the official Olympics opening ceremony will be shown on a big screen.
NICFC's youth programme co-ordinator, Darren McKinley, will also be in attendance with his Olympic torch for anyone who would like a picture of themselves posing with it.
In true Olympic form, prizes will be presented to the winning teams. But organisers said there is no such thing as a "loser" in this competition as all contestants will be helping to raise money for NI Cancer Fund for Children.
Every penny raised from the challenge will go towards providing vital financial, emotional and residential support for children and young people diagnosed with cancer and their families across Northern Ireland.
The Mini Olympics takes place on July 27 at 5pm. The event costs £15 to enter – a burger each is included - and each team of five should raise at least £200 in sponsorship.

Work has begun at several hospital sites across Northern Ireland as part of the preparations for the introduction of free car parking in May 2026. Health and Social Care Trusts have been actively preparing for the implementation of a new traffic management system since the Hospital Parking Charges Act was passed in 2022.
