Man Choked To Death On Own Vomit
A man who was drunk and on sedatives died after choking on his own vomit, an inquest has found.
Thomas Mervyn Hanvey, 55, was found dead at his home in Princess Way, Portadown, Co Armagh, on October 26 2009.
Belfast coroner Brian Sherrard said Mr Hanvey died from inhalation of gastric contents due to acute alcohol intoxication combined with diazepam and chlorpromazine.
The inquest was delayed until now as Mr Hanvey’s family argued that an alleged assault may have contributed to his death.
Couple Pulled From Sea
A couple were rescued from the sea in the north west of Northern Ireland at the weekend.
They were in a 20ft two-berth cabin cruiser which started to take on water 150 metres from the shore, and were rescued by RNLI lifeguards based on Castlerock beach in County Londonderry after they sent a mayday message.
Rape Reported In County Down
Police are investigating reports of a rape in Dromore, County Down.
It is understood a woman in her twenties was assaulted in Mills Park just before 10pm yesterday.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police.

Over 800 young people from schools in Lisburn and Castlereagh attended a hard-hitting road safety message at the PSNI Road Safe Roadshow on 19 November. The roadshow, supported by AXA Insurance and the Northern Ireland Road Safety Partnership, aims to educate young drivers about the dangers of irresponsible driving.

Detectives have renewed an appeal for information following a deliberate arson attack at a vacant property in the Weaver's Grange area of Newtownards. The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, 17 November, 2023. Police and firefighters were called to the scene at around 12:40am.
