Two Arrested After High-Speed Police Chase In West Belfast
Two men have been arrested following a high-speed police chase in west Belfast early Monday morning.
At around 2:30 AM, police spotted a white Volkswagen Golf traveling at excessive speed on the Westlink. Despite attempts to signal the driver to stop, the vehicle continued to accelerate, reaching speeds of up to 120mph and driving on the wrong side of the road.
A police pursuit ensued, and a stinger device was deployed to slow the vehicle down. However, the driver continued, eventually colliding with a police vehicle in Stockmans Lane. Both men were arrested at the scene. Police are investigating the incident and have appealed to any witnesses or individuals with relevant dashcam footage to come forward.
Inspector Irwin said: "Two men, aged 33 and 24, were arrested at the scene on suspicion of a number of driving offences, including dangerous driving and driving with no licence.
"They were both transported to hospital for treatment to injuries not believed to be life-threatening.
"The 24-year-old man has since been released on police bail as enquiries continue – whilst the 33-year-old man remains in custody at this time."
