Lisburn Pipe Band Wins World Championship Title
A pipe band from Lisburn has won the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow.
The Field Marshal Montgomery Pipe Band claimed the title for the seventh time, in front of an estimated 35,000 people at the weekend.
The band beat Scottish Power into second place at the annual event.
Glasgow's Lord Provost Sadie Docherty said the crowd had enjoyed "sensational performances".
He told the BBC: "The Worlds is a cornerstone of our cultural calendar that Glaswegians look forward to every year.
"I've always believed that Glasgow Green is never better than when the bands are here competing.
"Next year this event will be played out over two days, giving us an even bigger and better event to look forward to."
The championships have been associated with Glasgow for more than 60 years.
Two weeks ago, Stormont hosted the European Pipe Band Championships, where Boghall and Bathgate Caledonia Pipe Band from Scotland pushed the Lisburn band into second place.
The Field Marshal Montgomery Pipe Band was formed in 1945 in Drumalig, outside Carryduff.
It took its name from WWII hero Bernard Law Montgomery, who also contributed 10 shillings of start-up funding.
