Racism 'Not To Blame' For Newry Shooting
Racism was not to blame for the attack on a Polish man in Newry at the weekend, it has been claimed.
Gerry Coyle, chair of Drumalane and Quayside Close Community Association, told Newry Democrat it was not a racist attack and was "absolutely nothing to do with" the community.
Mauriusz Raczka was left with minor injuries to his neck and arm after the attack on Saturday evening.
Mr Raczka was sitting in his front room when a silver car pulled up outside at about 11.15pm.
A man dressed in a blue T-shirt and jeans got out of the car and fired a gunshot through the window.
Mr Raczka was injured as the pane shattered around him.
The family have lived in Drumalane for just a matter of months and said they do not know why they were targeted.
Mr Coyle said: "This was not a racially motivated attack and has absolutely nothing to do with the people of Drumalane, who have been traumatised by it. There is anger and shock that this has been visited on our community, particularly as we prepare to celebrate our festival which is open to all, both within and from outside Drumalane."
Anyone with information is asked to contact Ardmore police on 0845 600 8000.
Detectives would particularly like to speak to the driver of a blue or silver Mitsubishi Jeep that they believe was in the area on Saturday night.

Investigation Launched Following Arson Attack On Community Centre
Police have launched an investigation following an arson attack at Castlebay Community Centre in Co Tyrone. The attack happened in the early hours of Wednesday morning, 16 November. The bottom stairs lounge has been gutted and heavy damage caused to the bar upstairs. Money and goods were also stolen from the premises.

Homes evacuated during factory fire
Around 100 people have been evacuated from their north Belfast homes, following a suspected arson attack at a derelict factory. The blaze is understood to have started at the disused building in Sidney Street West in the Shankill area of the city at around 1am.

Three Cars Destroyed During Arson Attack
Three cars have been destroyed following an arson attacked at the house of a serving police officer in Larne. Three cars were set on fire outside the property on the Glenarm Road shortly before 1.45am on Thursday, 29 April. The officer, his wife and daughter were in the house at the time but were not physically harmed.
