Wilson Caught Phoning While Driving
Finance minister Sammy Wilson has been fined £200 for driving while using a hand-held telephone.
On April 30 this year, a court heard, Mr Wilson was spotted by a policeman holding a mobile phone up to his right ear as he drove on High Street, Newtownards.
Officers stopped Mr Wilson, who admitted using the mobile but said it was on speakerphone.
He was not present at the hearing in Ards Magistrates Court yesterday and no solicitor represented him.
Judge Mark Hamill slapped the fine and three licence points on Mr Wilson.
But it was not the DUP assembly member and East Antrim MP's first run-in with the traffic cops.
Mr Wilson was caught riding one of his motorbikes without tax or MOT in east Belfast in 2008, when he was Environment Minister and his department was responsible for enforcing tax and MOT rules and road safety.
He was taking it to a garage for a service, ahead of an MOT test in four days.
Mr Wilson said after the 2008 incident that he did not know he was breaking the law.
He was unavailable for comment about his latest traffic misdemeanour last night, the Belfast Telegraph has reported.

Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Angela Smith has announced proposals for the introduction of an MOT disc for motorists in Northern Ireland. It is hoped that the MOT disc, like the tax disc, will act as a reminder to motorists when their MOT test is due.
