NI drug dealer jailed in Scotland
A Northern Ireland man has been jailed for 14 years after terrorising a Scottish housing estate through his gang's drug activities.
David McLeave, 26, led a gang of six men who it was alledged controlled the drugs scene in Edinburgh's Calders housing estate for over two years.
In order to strike fear into his victims McLeave told them he was a member of loyalist paramilitary group, the Ulster Volunteer Force (UVF), a boast later proven to be false.
McCleave was finally apprehended when terrified victims, many of them drug addicts, agreed to testify against him.
Following a six-week trial in Dunfermline, McLeave was found guilty of 12 charges including several serious assaults.
The other members of his gang were also convicted on drug-dealing charges. Paul Campbell, 20, received a 10-year sentence; his brother Barry Campbell, 21, got six years; Thomas Irvine, 21, got 10 years and six months; Edward Lindsay, 23, received 10-years; and 21-year-old Lee Kinghan got a 10-year sentence.

NI Drug Deaths Double
The number of drug related deaths registered each year has more than doubled over the last decade rising from 39 deaths in 1997 to 86 last year. The 86 fatalities were registered in Northern Ireland where the cause of death was drug related, either due to legal or illegal drugs.

Many Arrests In Gardaí Drugs Raids
A total of 45 people have been arrested in the past 48 hours in Gardaí a crackdown on the sale and supply of heroin and 'crack' cocaine in the Dublin region. The operation, which involved Garda drug units from Kevin Street, Pearse Street and Store Street stations, resulted in 150 charges being brought, according to Gardaí this morning.

The PSNI have welcomed the sentencing of thirteen men and one woman in connection with an investigation into suspected criminality linked to the East Belfast UVF by the Paramilitary Crime Task Force. The defendants were sentenced over the five-week period, from 11 January to 16 February, at Belfast Crown Court.
