Man Killed In Three-Vehicle Accident

A man in his 70s has been killed in a road accident which involved three vehicles.

Police have said the incident occurred on the Lisburn to Ballynahinch road at 22:30 on Monday night.

Three other people have been injured and are now being treated in hospital.

The PSNI has asked for any witnesses to contact them.

Family Escapes North Belfast Shooting

A man, woman and a child have escaped uninjured following a shooting outside their house in north Belfast.

Police have revealed a group of masked men called to the front of the house in Cranbrook Court at around 22:15.

It has been reported that one of the men shot into the house, but the occupants were not injured.

Detectives investigating the incident have appealed for any witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

M1 Disruption Following Lorry Accident

A lorry has been overturned on the M1, causing disruption and traffic diversions.

The incident occurred close to Blaris and police have said it could take hours for the lorry’s load to be cleared from the motorway so that traffic can being moving as normal again.

It is thought the load could take as much as four hours to remove.

A section of the road between junctions eight and nine remained closed this morning, with motorists being advised to avoid the area.

The road was closed this morning, causing diversions for commuters driving to work.

Antrim House Fire Considered Suspicious

It is thought that a fire may have been deliberately started in a house in Antrim.

A woman who was inside the property in Thornway escaped injury.

Firefighters and police were called to the dwelling at about 01:00 early on Tuesday morning.

The fire caused extensive damage to a shed at the rear of the property before spreading to the house and causing further damage.

Police suspect arson, but have said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Belfast Hotel Plan Dropped: Report
A government-supported plan to build a hotel in central Belfast has been scrapped, the BBC has reported. Back in 2007, the Department for Social Development appointed Tullymore House Ltd as preferred developer for Armagh House in the city’s Ormeau Avenue, with plans to convert the building into an upmarket hotel.

Man questioned about 1988 murder
A man has been arrested in connection with police inquiries into a murder in 1988. The body of Lily Smyth, 66, was found in her flat at Moveen House in Dunmurry on October 9, 1988. The pensioner had been strangled. A police spokesperson said that a 43-year-old man had been arrested and is being questioned at Antrim Police Station.
