Lead Thieves Target Orange Hall
An Orange Hall in County Down has been the target of thieves attempting to steal lead.
Two intruders were caught in the act as they lifted off roof tiles in an attempt to steal lead pipes.
The incident occurred at Drumlough Orange Hall near Rathfriland on Tuesday afternoon.
The thieves were disturbed by a member of the lodge, but noone was arrested.
The building had just recently undergone an extensive renovation, making the damage caused by the operation particularly upsetting for Lodge members.
A spokesman for Drumlough LOL 153 condemned those responsible.
"The lodge members simply cannot understand the motivation behind this brazen attack on our hall which occurred in broad daylight," he said.
"The sheer audacity of those involved knows no bounds and it was only by sheer coincidence that the perpetrators were caught in the act, otherwise the consequences could have been much worse."
He has appealed for any witnesses to come forward and assist police in their investigations.
He also warned all key holders of community halls in the area to be vigilant.
He added: "Those involved in such criminal activity must face the full rigours of the law."
Such incidents in Orange Halls in Northern Ireland continue to be a relatively regular occurrence, with a Hall on Clifton Street in North Belfast having been attacked with paint in August.
In the same month, Glenavy Protestant Hall in County Antrim was the subject of police inquiries into an arson attack, while an earlier case of arson was investigated at Augharonan Orange Hall in County Tyrone in March.

Police are treating an attack on an Orange Hall in Crumlin, Co Antrim, as a hate crime. The PSNI received a report that a bin was on fire in the Main Street area of the town at around 4.30am on Thursday, 12 July. Graffiti was daubed on a wall and door of the memorial hall. Police are appealing to anyone with information to contact them.

Two Orange Halls Attacked
Two Orange Halls have been attacked over the weekend. A number of paint bombs were thrown at Rosedernott Orange hall, outside Cloughmills, during the early hours of Sunday, 23 July. A Union flag was also removed, and a flag pole damaged, from inside the grounds of Roden Orange hall in Kilkeel.

Appeal Following Arson Attack In L'Derry
PSNI detectives have issued an appeal for information following a serious arson attack in the Clon Dara area of L'Derry on Saturday, 23 November. Shortly before 8.20pm, police received a report that an accelerant had been used to ignite the front door and letterbox of a house in the area.
