UUP Councillors Criticise McCrea Flag Remark
The three Ulster Unionist Party councillors have demanded Basil McCrea be disciplined over his remarks that the Alliance Party was right to suggest the union flag only be flown on designated days over City Hall.
Mr McCrea made the comments, saying he agreed with the decision, on BBC Radio Ulster’s Nolan Show.
Now David Browne, Jim Rodgers and Bob Stoker have said they are considering their position within the party if action is not taken against their colleague.
Mr McCrea agreed that the flying of the union flag is a matter for Belfast Council, but said he believes it should fly only on designated days.
The three councillors believe the Lagan Valley MLA has contradicted the party’s stance on the union through his comments.
They are thought to be considering their position and have called for party to deal with Basil McCrea as a matter of urgency.
The UUP told the BBC in a statement: "Mike Nesbitt made the Ulster Unionist party`s position absolutely clear on Thursday.
"There is a fundamental issue regarding the chipping away of people's identity as British citizens.
"No doubt Basil McCrea's interview will be brought up when the party executive meet tomorrow."

Pharmacist Sentenced For Drug Offences
A 27-year-old pharmacist from Belfast has been sentenced to 180 hours of community service for unlawfully possessing and stealing controlled prescription drugs. Adam Hanna pleaded guilty to charges under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 and the Theft Act 1969. The offences took place at a North Belfast pharmacy between January and March 2024.

Francie Molloy Wins Mid-Ulster
Sinn Féin's Francie Molloy has won the Mid-Ulster by-election. Mr Molloy fulfilled electoral predictions with a majority win, securing 17,462 (47%) of votes, compared to his nearest rival, the joint unionist candidate, Nigel Lutton, who received 12,781 (34%).
