L'Derry Man Fined Over Police Officer Attack
A man from L’Derry has been fined for punching a police officer in the face.
19-year-old Stephen Kelly from Bellevue Avenue appeared at Limavady Magistrate's Court.
He admitted a series of public order offences on 25 November.
The female officer was punched after police discovered two men fighting on Catherine Street in Limavady.
One of the men was Kelly, who punched the officer when police intervened.
The court was told by Kelly’s defence that he had been celebrating his birthday and had consumed a lot of alcohol.
He told the court his client had apologised for his actions.
Deputy District Judge Mervyn Bates fined Kelly £150 and bound him over to be of good behaviour on his own security of £500 for a period of 18 months.

A 54-year-old member of police staff who was arrested in County Antrim as part of ongoing investigations into the awarding of vehicle contracts has been released. The man was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office and has been taken to a police station in Belfast for questioning.

The House of Lords has renewed the 50/50 recruitment rule for the PSNI by a majority of 44. It puts into practice a recommendation made in 1999 by Lord Patten that the local police force should be split evenly between Catholics and Protestants. The result of the vote was 141 to 97.
