City Of Culture Events Pavilion Completed
Works on the UK City of Culture Events Pavilion in L’Derry have been completed.
Social Development Minister Nelson McCausland announced the completion of 'the Venue' at Ebrington, as the city prepares for its role as the first UK City of Culture.
Contractors Extraspace Ltd. have officially handed the Venue over to the Department.
The Venue operator has already contracted out essential services, including box office management, duty managers, Front of House and general event crew, security and stewarding, catering and bar concessions, cleansing and waste management and electrical, medical and venue technical services.
Minister McCausland said: "The completion of the pavilion is another key milestone in the preparation for the UK City of Culture 2013. The facility will be one of the key venues for Londonderry in 2013 and will host a range of events that will attract both local residents and many visitors. I congratulate all those involved in the delivery of this project."
The Minister added: "I get a real sense of the increasing anticipation as the city awaits the start of the year long programme of events and this will only intensify further with the completion of the Venue."
The UK City of Culture 2013 events in the Venue will commence on 20 January 2013 with the Sons and Daughter’s concert.

Primark Donates £500,000 To Support Businesses Affected By Fire
Retailer Primark is donating £500,000 to Belfast City Council's City Recovery Investment Fund. The fund is being set up after a number of businesses have been severely affected by the fire at the Bank Buildings which happened over three weeks ago. A cordon remains in place and 14 firms have been closed for up to four months.

St Patrick's Day event has support of BCC says councillor
The Chairman of Belfast City Council’s Good Relations Steering Panel has challenged claims that the Council is not supporting St Patrick’s Day in Belfast. It follows a protest outside Belfast City Hall last week by the St Patrick's Carnival Committee who claim the Council isn't funding this year's event at the City Hall.
