L'Derry Man Fined For 100mph Speeding
A man from L’Derry has been fined and suspending from driving following a police car chase in the city that reached speeds of 100mph.
22-year-old Thomas Hyndman, of Milltown View in Newbuildings, admitted driving without insurance, speeding and driving his girlfriend's car without her consent.
Mr Hyndman’s driving was described as outrageous by the judge, who fined him £900 and disqualified him for a year and six months.
The incident began, the court heard, when Mr Hyndman was stopped at traffic lights on the entrance to Foyle Bridge on 6 October last year.
A police car stopped behind Mr Hyndman’s car and he then sped across the bridge at over 100mph.
Police caught up with him at Nelson Drive.
Mt Hyndman’s defence solicitor said his client had panicked when the police car pulled up behind him, as the car belonged to his girlfriend and he had taken it without her consent.
It was pointed out to the court that in 2010 Hyndman was also convicted of taking a car belonging to a different girlfriend without her consent.
