Man charged over fatal crash

A 20-year-old man has appeared in Belfast Magistrates Court today charged with causing death by dangerous driving following a road traffic collision at the weekend in which his girlfriend died.

Conall McAuley from Malone Avenue in south Belfast is also accused of causing grievous bodily harm to another passenger who was travelling in the car through dangerous driving.

He was also accused of driving with no insurance and with having false number plates.

The charges are connected to an incident in which the car which he was driving, was in collision with a skip in the Windsor Park area of the city in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Mr McAuley's 18-year-old girlfriend, who was travelling in the rear of the car, was killed in the crash and a 22-year-old man who was a front seat passenger was taken to hospital where he was treated for his injuries, which are not thought to be life threatening.

Mr McAuley was granted bail subject to certain conditions.
