Belfast Traders Need Help - Nesbitt
Ulster Unionist Leader, Mike Nesbitt MLA, is calling on Belfast City Council and the Northern Ireland Executive to listen carefully to tomorrow evening's meeting of Belfast traders at the Europa Hotel.
Mr Nesbitt said: "We all know that the decision to vote on the flying of the Union flag at City Hall so close to Christmas was a disaster for Belfast traders, denying them what they had been hoping for all year, namely a Christmas boost to bring in cash that would help them ride out the challenging early months of 2013.
"Having consulted and listened to many traders, I think there are a number of initiatives that the City Council and executive could consider to bring timely relief to the local business community.
"Fifteen years ago, we brought forward a political agreement that was designed to end 30 years of terrorism against our economy and give traders an even chance of making a living, and growing the prosperity of all by offering employment, paying taxes and rates, and bring normality to the streets of our capital city. They have supported us through difficult times. It is time for politicians to step up to the plate."
