NI Avalanche Victim Named
One of the four climbers killed in an avalanche in Scotland over the weekend has been named as Una Finnegan, originally from Coleraine in County L’Derry.
She and her party had been traversing a mountain in Glencoe, in the Scottish Highlands, on Saturday afternoon.
Ms Finnegan was a 25-year-old junior doctor who had been living in Edinburgh.
She and her three friends died when a sheet of snow gave way and swept the climbers 1,000ft to the bottom of the mountain.
Phd students Christopher Bell and Tom Chesters have been named as being among the group, while a fourth woman has not yet been named as her extended family are still being informed.
Ms Finnegan’s father is Dr Owen Finnegan, who was a consultant at the Causeway Hospital.
Independent East L’Derry Councillor David McClarty offered his condolences to the Finnegan family.
He said: "When one hears of a tragedy like this your heart goes out to the families affected, but when you discover that one of them is your own it brings it home to you much worse.
"This young woman, a qualified doctor, had her whole life ahead of her and then it is tragically cut short.
"The family is a Christian one and hopefully they will get some comfort from the fact that she died doing something she enjoyed.
"The news has come with a great deal of shock to the area."
Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond released a statement on Saturday, following the accident.
He said: "This is an appalling tragedy and our immediate thoughts and prayers are with the families of those who have been lost. To lose four people from a party of six is truly devastating.
"The Scottish Government will provide any support that we can and I would like to thank the police and mountain rescue team for their efforts in these difficult circumstances."

Man Dies In Roadside Incident
A man in his 40s has died following an incident on the Belfast Road, near Nutts Corner in County Antrim. The deceased, named locally as Terry Telford, passed away on Saturday morning, 06 June. It is believed he was working on a lorry by the roadside when the incident occurred. The road was closed for several hours but has since reopened.

Weekend road victim named
Police have released the name of a 44-year old man who was killed in a road traffic incident at the weekend. Jim Donaghy, from the Donegal Road area of South Belfast, died after the motorbike he was driving was in collision with a car on Sunday afternoon. The incident happened at around 2.30pm in the Temple area of Carryduff.

A man has been charged with murder after a body was found in a car in Lisburn on Monday, 26 September. The body of a man, named locally as Gerry Mulligan, was discovered in the Limehurst Way area. The suspect is expected to appear at Lisburn Magistrates' Court on Thursday, 29 September.
