Simon Tang Murder: Charge Withdrawn
A murder charge filed against one of the men accused of killing Chinese restaurateur Simon Tang in 1996 has been withdrawn.
Mr Tang was killed in attack in which he was beaten and robbed outside his takeaway business in Carrickfergus, County Antrim, in 1996
Belfast Magistrates Court has been told the case against George Robinson is no longer proceeding.
But detectives investigating the fatal attack are continuing their inquiries.
Mr Tang was a married father of two. His watch and the takings for the evening were stolen during the attack. He was taken to hospital but died from his injuries.
No one has yet been convicted of his killing.
36-year-old Mr Robinson from the The Hollies, Carrickfergus, was originally accused of the murder alongside Paul Allen, 38, of Drumhoy Drive in the town.
But now a Public Prosecution Service representative has told the court the charge against Mr Robinson was being withdrawn.

Detectives have renewed an appeal for information following a deliberate arson attack at a vacant property in the Weaver's Grange area of Newtownards. The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, 17 November, 2023. Police and firefighters were called to the scene at around 12:40am.

Arson Attack On 5G Mast In West Belfast
Detectives in Belfast are investigating a suspected arson attack on a 5G mast in the Andersonstown Road area. The incident occurred around 9.55pm on Wednesday, November 13th. Detective Sergeant Faulkner confirmed that officers attended the scene alongside the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service, who successfully extinguished the blaze.

Man Arrested Over Simon Tang Murder
A man has been arrested in connection with the murder of Simon Tang. Mr Tang was killed outside his business in Carrickfergus in 1996. The 34-year-old was detained this morning on suspicion of perverting the course of justice. Two women have already been charged with perverting the course of justice and are due to appear in court at the end of May.
