L'Derry Man Dies In Amsterdam
A man from L'Derry has died in a canal in Amsterdam.
The Republic of Ireland's Department of Foreign affairs has revealed 37-year-old Damien McFadden, 37, was seen in the water of the Singel Canal on Saturday evening at 23:00.
Mr McFadden was spotted by passers-by and was taken to hospital. He died a few hours later.
Man Fined Over Minibus Offences
A County Tyrone man has been fined £950 and ordered to forfeit his vehicle for driving dangerously and driving without a valid licence.
Mr Michael Campbell, 46, of Ballybeg Road, Dungannon, appeared at Dungannon Magistrates' Court today.
On 25 February 2012, Enforcement Officers from the Driver & Vehicle Agency (DVA) observed a minibus, which was fitted with nine passenger seats, stop and drop off passengers on James Street, Cookstown.
The officers ascertained that the vehicle was being used to carry passengers for hire and reward.
They directed Mr Campbell to a DVA Test Centre, whereupon an examination of his vehicle identified various offences.
He was fined £200 for using his Toyota minibus in a dangerous condition, as it was decided that the suspension on the vehicle was defective and could have caused a loss of control of the vehicle.
He was fined a further £400 for using his vehicle without valid insurance, £150 for failing to hold a Road Service Licence, £100 for failing to hold a PSV Vehicle Licence and £100 for driving without a Category D1 vocational driver’s licence.
Tyrone Business Fined For Water Pollution
A County Tyrone business has been fined £1,400 after pleading guilty to making a polluting discharge to a waterway.
Augher Co-Op Agricultural and Dairy Society Limited, Crossowen Road, Augher, was told to pay £19 court costs on top of the fine, at Dungannon Magistrates’ Court today.
On 22 May 2012, a Water Quality Inspector noted a "discoloured discharge" emanating from the recognised sample point at the site of Augher Co-Op Agricultural and Dairy Society Limited’s food processing premises at Crossowen Road, Augher.
The effluent was entering a tributary of the Blackwater River. A statutory sample of the discharge was taken.
It was determined that the poor-quality of the effluent discharged had been due to equipment failure on site.
Laboratory analysis of the sample confirmed that it contained poisonous, noxious or polluting material which would have been potentially harmful to fish life in the receiving waterway.
Men Convicted Of Fishing Offences
Three men have been convicted at Dungannon Court of fisheries offences.
Francis Patrick Canavan from Back Lower Road, Killycolpy, Stewartstown and Martin Connor Canavan of the same address were found guilty of various offences, including fishing by unlicenced and unfair means, possession of immature trout, fishing out of season and possession of an unlawful fishing engine.
Each man was fined a total of £1,360 plus an offender levy of £15, costs of £30 and court costs of £20.
Matthew Baker from Jellicoe Drive, Belfast, was convicted of fishing by unlicensed and unfair means and unauthorised entry on a several fishery.
Mr Baker was fined a total of £140 plus an offender levy of £15, costs of £150 and court costs of £20.

Major Fish Kill In County Armagh
A major fish kill has been reported in County Armagh. It is believed to have been caused by pollution from farm waste, according to the Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA). At least 60 fish have been reported to have been found dead in the Bessbrook River. The NIEA expect this number to rise.

Street Drinkers Pay The Cost
Five people have been fined at Belfast Magistrates Court for drinking alcohol in public. Tyrone McCann, from Richmond Avenue in Newtownabbey, was fined £50 and ordered to pay costs of £66 after he was detected drinking alcohol at Suffolk Road in west Belfast on January 16.

A Belfast taxi operator has been fined £1,000 for four taxi operator offences today at Belfast Magistrates Court. Roderick Hassan, trading as A1 Taxis, Union Street, Belfast, was convicted and fined £200 for keeping false and/or misleading taxi booking records and providing a false statement.
