A-Level Re-Sits To Be Scrapped
A-level exams in Northern Ireland are to undergo some changes following a consultation, education minister John O’Dowd has announced.
The changes were proposed following the announcement that the examination sin England would return to a linear system.
In NI, the modular system of exams will be kept, but January re-sits are to be scrapped from September 2013.
Pupils currently doing A-levels will be given the opportunity to do re-sits in January 2014.
The BBC quote Mr O’Dowd as saying: "There will also be one re-sit opportunity for AS and/or A2 permitted in June of each year.
"I have also asked the Council for the Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment (CCEA) to consider a change to the weighting of AS/A2 from 50:50 to 40:60."
NUJ Demand End To Threats
A journalism union has called for an end to threats being made against journalist in the north and south of Ireland.
The National Union of Journalists revealed that a County Donegal-based journalist has received threats.
Two journalists in Northern Ireland had already received death threats from loyalist paramilitaries last week.
An NUJ spokesperson said the union asked those responsible for the threats "to cease this intimidation and abuse."
Paralympic Athlete Encourage Pupils To Walk To School
Double gold medallist Paralympian Michael McKillop has launched a campaign to encourage more pupils to walk to school.
McKillop will join pupils from four schools for the launch of this year's Walk to School Week in County Antrim.
More than 40,000 pupils are expected to take part in the week-long initiative.

Death Threats Lifted Against Community Wardens
Dissident republican death threats made against community support workers at Derry City Council have been lifted. It is understood the trade union NIPSA has confirmed that threats, made on two separate occasions against the council's community workers, have now been lifted.
