Terumo BCT To Create 416 New Jobs In Larne
First Minister Rt. Hon Peter D Robinson MLA and deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness MLA announced today that Terumo BCT, a global medical device manufacturer, plans to create 416 new jobs in Larne.
Terumo BCT in Larne is headquartered in Lakewood, Colorado. Terumo BCT is a member of the Terumo Group family of companies owned by the Japanese-based Terumo Corporation. The new jobs are being supported with over £2 million of support from Invest NI through its Jobs Fund.
Terumo BCT is also investing over £2million in two R&D projects, the first research activities that will be undertaken at the Larne facility. Invest NI has offered almost £500,000 of R&D support, which includes part funding from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
The First Minister said: "I welcome this announcement of over 400 new jobs by Terumo BCT which will deliver a much needed economic boost to the local area and over £6million annually in salaries. The Northern Ireland Executive has placed the growth of the economy at the top of its priorities and investment such as this helps us to meet that goal.
"Terumo BCT is recognised as one of the most innovative companies in the world and this impressive Larne facility is one of the most advanced of its type in Europe. I commend the commitment of local people to providing high quality standards at Terumo which impact on the health and wellbeing of people around the world and for this they should be very proud."
The deputy First Minister said: "The Larne facility has typically focused on manufacturing and is recognised internationally for its excellence and commitment to the most stringent industry standards. Today’s announcement will not only bring local employment but will result in the facility expanding its remit into research and development for the first time.
"As global leaders return home after G8, there can be no more fitting endorsement of the local investment proposition than an announcement such as this by a global leader in the healthcare sector."
