Motorists Warned Over Fake MOT Website
The DOE has issued a warning to Northern Ireland's motorists about a fake website that charged an additional £15 to book an MOT test.
The current cost of an MOT test is £30.50, but the unofficial site is charging £45.
Newly-appointed Environment Minister Mark H Durkan said his department had been made aware of the site and reported it to Trading Standards Service.
He also advised motorists to only use the official government website, NIDirect, when booking an MOT.
However, the unofficial site is believed to also be using the NIDirect name.
Mr Durkan explained: "We have been made aware of a website which has been set up to take MOT bookings, charging customers a service fee of £15.00.
"All customers are advised to only book their MOT tests through NIDirect, the official government website.
"There is no service fee involved."
Mr Durkan was appointed to the role of Environment Minister last week, replacing his SDLP colleague, Alex Attwood.

Minister calls for introduction of MOT disc
Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Angela Smith has announced proposals for the introduction of an MOT disc for motorists in Northern Ireland. It is hoped that the MOT disc, like the tax disc, will act as a reminder to motorists when their MOT test is due.

Man Charged After Glenarm Shooting
Detectives investigating the incident on Feystown Road on Monday, 25 November, have charged a 41-year-old man with attempted murder, possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, and criminal damage. The accused is due to appear at Ballymena Magistrates’ Court today, Thursday, 28 November.
