Century Homes in 15m euro expansion

Tánaiste Mary Harney has announced a major €15 million expansion investment by Century Homes at their Monaghan, Longford and Dungarvan facilities, as well as plans for a new plant in Tullamore.

The expansion at the timber-frame manufacturing and engineering company will lead to the creation of 250 new jobs - bringing total employment at the four facilities to 500 by the end of 2006.

Speaking at a function in Tullamore the Tánaiste said: "This expansion announcement is a unique contribution to regional development running directly from Monaghan in the north part of the country to Dungarvan in the south. It is a really good example of an Irish company developing exports and explicitly underpins the link between exports and regional development.

"The new investment will effectively double the size of the company in terms of sales and output and make it the largest, most profitable timber frame housing manufacturer in the UK and Ireland."

Welcoming the announcement by the Tánaiste, Dan Flinter, Chief Executive Officer of Enterprise Ireland said: "From the outset, Century Homes determined to establish an approach to manufacturing and quality practice that would set the standards for the timber frame industry in Ireland. This approach is still rooted in the business today and is applied across the business functions including an aggressive sales and marketing strategy which will see strong export growth in the UK."
