Wholesaler Announces 300 New Irish Jobs
The Barry Group, which runs Costcutter and Quik-Pick stores across Ireland, has announced expansion plans that will see the creation of 300 new jobs.
Last year the group turned over €691m, and will now re-invest profits into expanding operations in the Republic.
Profits have grown from €632m in the previous year, prompting the Cork-based firm to shore-up branding plans.
The wholesale food distributor operates the Costcutter and Quik Pick brands.
Managing Director Jim Barry said that in order to respond to the challenges and opportunities the company wants to increase its scale to better respond to market change.
The combined investment this year by Barry Group and its retailers was more than €25m, which included the revamp of 25 stores, and the development of a number of greenfield sites.
By the end of this year, 32 new stores will join the group, bringing the total number of Costcutter stores in Ireland to over 135.
