PSNI Release Footage Of Suspected Bomber
The PSNI in L'Derry have released CCTV footage of a man suspected of being responsible for a failed double bomb attack at the offices of Derry City Council last year.
Two devices were discovered close to the council offices on September 20 2012, just before 23:00, when a Foyle Search and Rescue volunteer found a rucksack on the river embankment to the rear of premises.
Upon examination, the device was discovered to be a pipe bomb.
Police were called to the scene and discovered a secondary device attached to a bicycle that had been chained to a railing a short distance away.
Both were made safe by British Army bomb experts.
Chief Inspector Jon Burrows has urged anyone who might recognise the man in the footage to contact police.
The video shows the suspect wheeling a bicycle along the Foyle walkway and a short time later retracing his steps, having planted the rucksack and the bike.
"Either device had the potential to kill or injure anyone in the vicinity, had they exploded," Chief Inspector Jon Burrows said.
"The second device on the bike was timed to go off when the security forces were in the area dealing with the first device in the rucksack.
"The bike bomb was on a walkway that is frequently used by walkers and joggers and people on their way home from a night out. We were lucky that no one was killed or seriously injured.
"I would appeal to anyone who recognises this individual to contact police on 0845 600 8000 ext 64911. Alternatively, anyone who does not want to provide their details can phone the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."

Viable Pipe Bomb Found In North Belfast
A viable pipe bomb has been found in north Belfast, police have confirmed. Police and army bomb experts discovered the device in the garden of a house in Shore Crescent on Monday. The pipe bomb has been removed for further examination. Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.
