Police Appeal After Nuns Robbed In Convent

Police have appealed for information after a man assaulted and robbed two nuns in a west Belfast convent.

According to reports the man, thought to be in his 40s, conned his way into the convent on the Falls Road at around 16:20 on Tuesday afternoon.

Once inside he ordered one of the nuns to empty her purse before attacking her and a second nun and demanding more cash.

Police say that the man is around 6ft tall, of stocky build and was wearing a dark jacket, jeans and trainers, and spoke with a local accent.

Police have said they believe missing Omagh man, Shane Sharkey, has been found in the Republic of Ireland. A police appeal for help in finding the 35-year-old has been cancelled, with police saying they now believe they know where he is. Funeral Held For Nuns Killed In Crash
The funeral of two nuns who died following a collision with a police car on the A1 outside Newry is to be held today. Sister Frances Forde and Sister Marie Duddy, from the Sisters of Mercy Order based at Ballysillan House on the Crumlin Road in north Belfast, were involved in a collision with a police car on Tuesday morning.

Two Nuns Killed In Newry Collision
Two nuns have died in a crash involving a police car in Newry, Co Down. The crash happened on the Belfast Road on Tuesday morning. The road has been closed between the Outlet Centre at Banbridge and Sheepbridge Road. Police are currently at the scene.

Missing Man Found 'Safe And Well'
Missing man Declan Mawhinney has been found safe and well, according to the police. Mr Mawhinney, 46, went missing from Letterkenny on Saturday at approximately 11.40pm. A missing person appeal was launched by the police and his family. He was located in Letterkenny on Tuesday. Police thank the public for their assistance.
