Storm Causes NI Travel Disruption

A number of flights and ferry services to and from Northern Ireland have been cancelled today (Monday) as a result of the storm currently battering southern England and Wales.

The storm, which is said to be one of the worst storms in at least five years to reach the UK, has already caused widespread damage since Sunday evening.

The gale force winds and heavy rain is expected to continue throughout the day, causing travel disruption.

A number of flights from NI to Heathrow have been cancelled as a result, with British Airways reducing its early morning flights by 20%. A further eight services between Heathrow and Ireland have also been cancelled, with the Aer Lingus routes between Dublin, Cork, Belfast and Heathrow being affected.

Passengers have been asked to contact their airlines for further updates.

In a statement, Belfast International Airport said: "If you are due to travel please contact your airline for latest flight status. Please also be aware of disruption to train services around the London area which may affect you onward travel arrangements."

Ferry services have also been hit by the weather, with the 7.30am and 10.30am sailings between Larne and Cairnryan cancelled.

P&O Ferries said later sailings could also be subject to disruptions and they would provide further information as soon as possible.
