Man Shot In South Armagh
A man has been shot in the legs outside the village of Cullyhanna in south Armagh.
The attack began when a gang of men entered a house on Drummond Road near the border with Castleblayney in County Monaghan at about 19:20 on Tuesday evening.
The victim, thought to be in his 40s, was shot and taken to hospital. His injuries are thought to be not life threatening.
Slieve Gullion SDLP councillor Geraldine Donnelly said: "I was coming home last night through Camlough and saw the emergency services vehicles and thought there must have been an accident. When I heard what happened I was horrified, and I hope the man makes a full and speedy recovery.
"I can’t believe there are still guns out there and people are prepared to use them. People are shocked and appalled. Nobody wants to hear this news. The entire community will reject this violent attack and I would urge anyone with information to come forward to the authorities so that those responsible can be brought to justice."
Alliance Justice spokesperson Stewart Dickson added: "Those responsible for this shooting are callous and cruel individuals who have no regard for the well being of other people. There cannot be any justification for this attack.
"I would urge anybody with any information about this shooting to contact the police. Those responsible must be urgently taken off our streets to face justice in the courts."
