Man Forced To Hand Over Cash In Robbery
A man has been forced to hand over cash during a robbery of a business in County Down.
The incident happened at about 07:00 this morning, when the man was forced to open the premises on the Castlebawn Road in Newtownards.
It is believed the man then made off with a sum of money.
No one was injured during the incident and enquiries are continuing.
PSNI Attends L'Derry Alert
The PSNI is currently attending a security alert in L'Derry.
The Strabane Old Road has been closed following the report of a suspicious object.
An Army bomb squad has been sent to the scene.
The alert follows an incident this week in L'Derry during which a bus driver was told to drive a bomb to a nearby police station.
Confiscation Order Against Belfast Man
A Confiscation Order has been obtained by the Social Security Agency of £31,573 against Stephen Ferguson (55) of Tildarg Street, Belfast.
The Order relates to a guilty plea by the defendant on 7 June for having fraudulently claimed Income Support and Rates Rebate.
He was sentenced to an 18-month prison sentence suspended for two years.
At the confiscation hearing the Court agreed that the loss to the Department through the defendant’s criminal activity amounted to £31,573 and a Confiscation Order was granted in this amount.
He has until 20 May 2014 to satisfy the order.
Belfast Woman Convicted Of Benefit Fraud
A woman was convicted at Belfast Crown Court yesterday for claiming benefits she was not entitled to.
Anne Marie Mahon (60) of Cliftonville Road, Belfast claimed Income Support and Housing Benefit totalling £29,769 while failing to declare capital. She was given a two year conditional discharge.
She is also required to repay any outstanding money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

Orange Parade Restricted
The Parades Commission has decided to yet again restrict a 12 July Orange Order Parade in north Belfast from marching along a stretch of the Crumlin Road on its return route. The move follows an identical decision made regarding the same parade last year, which seeks to march through the predominantly nationalist area of north Belfast.

Benefit order books replaced by direct payment
The Social Security Agency (SSA) has confirmed that the last ever batch of benefit order books are currently being distributed. "The last benefit order books are now being sent out, so it's definitely time for change to Direct Payment," said the Social Security Agency's Customer Service Director Anne Flanagan.
