Claims Of Neglect Made Against Carrickfergus Care Home
Staff at a Carrickfergus nursing home did not inform the relatives of an elderly resident that she had died.
According to a report by the BBC, Elizabeth Calvert claims that in April 2011 Cherry Tree House telephoned her to say her mother Olive was unwell.
She says that on arrival at the home a short time after the call she went to her mother room but couldn't find. Eventually a member of staff asked if she "wanted to see her?", at which point she was taken to another residents room.
It was at this point that Mrs Calvert found that her mother had died.
A confidential review into the incident said there were gaps in how the home had managed contact with relatives.
It came a day after a whistle-blower said she had raised concerns about standards in the home in 2005.
