Lidl Could Open City Centre Store – Reports
It has been reported that Lidl could be preparing to open a new branch in Belfast City Centre.
According to the BBC, the discount supermarket chain has applied for an off-sales licence for the Hi Park Centre.
The centre, which is around 30,000 sq ft, was previously leased by French company Group Geraud, who then sublet the facility to a number of smaller retailers under the brand InShops.
In 2012, however, the group did not renew its lease and the InShops business closed.
Earlier this year, it went into liquidation.
The supermarket has yet to comment on the claims, but last year it said it was planning to double the number of stores it had in the UK. The chain has been established in Northern Ireland since 1999 and has 35 stores in the region, as well as a distribution centre in Co Antrim.
