PSNI To March In NYC Paddy's Day Parade

PSNI officers are to take part in New York's St Patrick's Day parade for the first time this year.

Six officers will be led by a Chief Inspector to parade alongside members of An Garda Síochána.

The PSNI officers have been selected as a result of their participation in the 2013 World Police and Fire Games.

The New York City St. Patrick's Day Parade has been taking place for over 250 years, having begun on March 17, 1762, fourteen years before the Declaration of Independence.

Assistant Chief Constable Alistair Finlay said: "We are delighted to have six officers in New York representing the PSNI and participating in the St Patrick's Day Parade."

First Minister Peter Robinson and deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness are to attend the annual St Patrick's Day celebrations at the White House hosted by President Obama, along with Northern Ireland Secretary Theresa Villiers.

The Ministers will attend following visits to Los Angeles and San Francisco this week as part of a trade mission.
