Belfast Remembers Titanic
Belfast has marked the 102nd anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic at a ceremony in the City Hall Titanic Memorial Garden.
Some 1,500 people lost their lives on the night of 15 April 1912 when HMS Titanic went under. The memorial was held at noon today.
Aidan McMichael, Chairman of the Belfast Titanic Society, led proceedings in a wreath-laying ceremony and observing a minute's silence.
Mr McMichael said: "The Belfast Titanic Society is once again proud, in partnership with BCC, to be associated with the annual commemoration of the loss of RMS Titanic. The tranquility of the memorial gardens continues to be wonderful opportunity for all of us, and visitors to the city, to take time out to unite and consider the human tragedy the event was, not just for relatives but for the whole city."
Burglars Use Ladder To Access Nursery
Police are hunting a group of people who used a ladder to access a nursery via the roof.
The incident occurred in the Northland Road area of L'Derry overnight on Monday. Burglars climbed up onto the roof and gained access, but nothing was stolen.
There was also an unsuccessful attempt to enter a restaurant in the same area.
Woman Dragged From Car
A woman has been dragged from her car by hijackers in Newtownabbey, County Antrim.
The driver was attacked by two men in the Innis Walk area on Sunday night.
One of the men opened the door and pulled the woman from her Misubishi Colt, which was later found burned out in the Camcross Park area.
Woman Convicted Of Benefit Fraud
A woman has been convicted at Newtownards Magistrates’ court for claiming benefits she was not entitled to.
28-year-old Nicole Mellon of Cloughey Road, Portaferry claimed Income Support and Housing Benefit totalling £5,477 while failing to declare she was living with her partner. She was given a two month prison sentence suspended for 18 months, fined £130 and ordered to pay court costs of £15.
She will also have to repay any outstanding money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

Titanic Centenary Events Remember Lives Lost
A series of events were held over the weekend to commemorate the 1,500 men, women and children who lost their lives when the Titanic sank on 15 April 1912. To mark the centenary of the sinking a service of Commemoration and Thanksgiving for the Titanic was held in St Anne’s Cathedral and a Requiem Mass was held in St Peter’s Cathedral, Belfast.
