Counting Begins Of NI Election Votes
Counting of the votes cast in Northern Ireland's European and local elections is underway.
Thousands of people went to the polls on Thursday to elect 462 Councillors in the 11 district councils.
905 candidates are competing for 462 seats.
Ten candidates are in the running for Northern Ireland's three seats in the European parliament.
The first council seats are expected to be announced at around 6.30pm this evening.
UTV is to broadcast a special three-hour programme on Saturday from 12.20pm.

Counting Underway In Local Council Elections
The counting process has begun in Northern Ireland's council elections. Ballot boxes were opened in 11 count centres across the region at 8am this morning, Friday 03 May, commencing the two-day count. The 1,463 polling stations closed their doors at 10pm last night, sealing the fate of the 819 candidates fighting for 462 seats.

The Ulster Unionist Party's Jim Nicholson has announced that he will not be putting his name forward as the party's candidate in the upcoming European elections. It comes after a development in the Brexit negotiations confirmed the UK would participate in the elections on 23 May.

Council Vote Reflects DUP/SF Dominance
There have been continuing losses in the local council elections for the two parties to fare worst in the Assembly poll - the Ulster Unionists and the SDLP. The gains in the local election - just as for Stormont - are for the DUP, Sinn Fein and Alliance.

DUP and Sinn Fein leading in Assembly Elections
UPDATE: The Democratic Unionist Party and Sinn Fein hold the majority of seats in the Northern Ireland Assembly Election. The DUP and Sinn Fein emerged considerably ahead of the other parties with main losers the UUP dropping 9 seats to retain just 18 seats.
