Lightning strike cuts power to 1,300 homes
The electricity supply of more than 1,300 households was cut last night following lightning strikes in Co Tyrone.
The strikes in Dungannon, Cookstown and surrounding areas damaged electricity equipment and caused some disruption to electricity supplies.
Customers were also affected for short periods of time in Cookstown, Stewartstown, Aughnacloy and Donaghmore.
Fiona McClintock, NIE Customer Relations Manager for the area, said: “Due to the damage caused by the lightning, it took some time to carry out permanent repairs and restore electricity supply to the remaining customers.
“Lightning strikes on the electricity network are quite common at this time of year. We would advise our customers to check their trip switch by their domestic fuse box if they experience a loss of supply. We also ask customers to take precautionary measures in the event of a power cut."
Any customer requiring assistance or wishing to report a fault should contact NIE's Customer Helpline on 08457 643643.
