NIE issue warning following gunshot damage
Northern Ireland Electricity (NIE) has issued a safety warning after gunshots damaged overhead electricity equipment in north Belfast this week.
Residents in the Ballysillan and Ligoneil areas were affected on Wednesday following gunshot damage to overhead electricity equipment. The damage left customers without power for nearly six hours.
Ken McCracken, NIE Customer Relations Manager expressed concern at the incident. He said: “I cannot stress strongly enough the risk of electrocution these people take when they maliciously damage or interfere with electricity equipment.
"Vandalism of this nature could have potentially fatal consequences for both the vandals and other members of the public."
Anyone who witnesses such incidents are asked to contact NIE on 08457 643 643.

Pedestrian Injured In Belfast Hit-and-Run
The PSNI have issued an appeal for information following a hit-and-run incident in the Botanic Avenue area of Belfast in the early hours of Thursday morning. Officers were called to the scene shortly before 1.30am after a male pedestrian was struck by a maroon Mazda. Despite being injured, the pedestrian left the area before police arrived.

Gunshots leave 500 homes without electricity
Northern Ireland Electricity (NIE) has condemned an incident in which 500 customers were left without electricity in Co Londonderry yesterday. Multiple faults were reported at around 4.40pm yesterday afternoon in a short section of overhead line. NIE believe the fault was caused by gunshots.
