PSNI Investigate Downpatrick Church Break-In

Police are investigating a break-in at a Catholic Church in Downpatrick, County Down.

A window to the visitor toilets at St Patrick's was smashed some time overnight between 15 and 16 July. The toilet was then damaged along with seven windows in the chapel.

The incident is not perceived as a hate crime, police have said.

Officers investigating this incident are appealing for witnesses. They can be contacted at Downpatrick police station by calling the non-emergency number 101.

Boy 'Assaulted' Over Food Refund

A boy has been allegedly assaulted by a staff member at a restaurant in Lurgan, County Armagh, after he asked for a refund for some food he had just bought.

The incident occurred at about 16:00 on Tuesday in the Flush Place area of the town.

It has been reported the altercation occurred during a dispute over a refund. The boy's injuries are not thought to be serious.

East Belfast Police Station Attacked

Petrol bombs have been thrown at a police station in Belfast that had already been attacked over the weekend.

A church and a community organisation have also been attacked. Police are working to establish whether there is a link between the incidents.

The attacks occurred in the Isthmus Street and Woodstock Road areas.

Funeral Held For Diving Victim

The funeral of a County Tyrone clergyman who died after coming into difficulty while diving off the Donegal coast is taking place today.

Presbyterian Minister Rev Dr Stewart Jones from Bessbrook went diving with a friend from L'Derry near Saint John's Point on Saturday.

The 57-year-old was a qualified diving instructor.

The service is to take place in Donemana Presbyterian Church, where Dr Jones was minister.

Police Officers Disciplined For Failing To Tell Doctor About Woman's Head Injuries
Two police officers have been disciplined after they failed to let their colleagues and a police doctor know that a woman had sustained a head injury, a Police Ombudsman investigation has concluded. The woman died from bleeding to the brain on 24 February 2014, the day after she suffered the injury.

Police link hostage incident to attack on police station
Police have linked a gun attack on a police station on Wednesday night with a hostage incident in Co Antrim. A van used in the shooting of Randalstown PSNI station on Wednesday evening is believed to have been the vehicle stolen earlier in the evening from a family who were held hostage by a gang of men at a house in Craigstown Road in the town.

Man Arrested Over Murder Of George Gilmore
A 39-year-old man has been arrested by police investigating the murder of George Gilmore. Mr Gilmore, aged 44, was shot in the neck in Carrickfergus on Monday, 13 March. He died from his injuries in hospital the following day, 14 March. The suspect was detained in Co Antrim on Wednesday, 12 April, and is being questioned at Musgrave police station.

Police Vehicle Contracts Arrest - Man Released
A 54-year-old member of police staff who was arrested in County Antrim as part of ongoing investigations into the awarding of vehicle contracts has been released. The man was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office and has been taken to a police station in Belfast for questioning.
