NIE complaints fall to 10-year low
Complaints made against Northern Ireland Electricity (NIE) have fallen over the past year, a report by electricity regulator Ofreg has revealed.
According to Ofreg’s Customer Services Report for 2002-2003 the number of complaints referred to the regulator for the period 1 April 2002 to 31 March 2003 fell to an all time low since privatisation in 1993.
In addition, NIE further improved its performance on its statutory Guaranteed Standards for the fourth consecutive year.
Welcoming the figures, Gerry Donnelly, Head of Consumer Affairs at Ofreg, said: “That NIE should only have 17 official complaints recorded against it from a customer base of 720,000 is a credit to all the staff in NIE in its role as Northern Ireland’s public electricity supplier.
"The excellent approach to customer service over the past number of years has seen complaints decline rapidly making NIE one the best customer facing electricity companies in the UK.”

Man Dies After Bus Fall In Belfast
Detectives are investigating the death of an 80-year-old man who fell from a bus in Belfast. Police have said that they believe the man was travelling on a 2J Translink Metro bus service at around 11:15am on Friday, 08 November, when he suffered a fall as the bus travelled along Royal Avenue, near it's junction with North Street.

Power Cut Affects Belfast Businesses
A number of shops in Belfast city centre were left without power due to a fault in an underground cable, NIE Networks has confirmed. Many shops and businesses were affected by the power cut which happened on Wednesday afternoon, 04 January. Power has now been restored to all properties.
