B&Q open 100th UK Warehouse in Belfast
DIY giants, B&Q has officially opened its 100th UK Warehouse in Belfast, which has created 215 new jobs.
B&Q Warehouse, Holywood Exchange is the retailer's eighth store in Northern Ireland, which will bring the total number of B&Q staff in Northern Ireland to 1,000.
Making the official opening alongside general manager, Colin Greene and managing director of B&Q Warehouse, Ian Morrice, was leading yachtswoman Ellen MacArthur.
Speaking at the new 145,000 sq ft store, Mr Greene said: "B&Q is recognised for its industry-leading training and social responsibility programmes. There is no greater evidence of this than at the new B&Q Warehouse, Holywood Exchange, where 50% of the staff are aged over 50.
"Many of these staff have embarked on a second career following the demise of the manufacturing sector in the region. What's more, the new store will be the Northern Irish centre for B&Q's own university staff training schemes."
In addition to creating 215 new jobs in the area, the opening of the B&Q Warehouse, Holywood Exchange brings a new-and-improved shopping experience to DIY fans.
As well as having access to up to 40,000 products, including the exclusive 'it' kitchen range, customers will benefit from unrivalled expert advice, thanks to a team of in-store trade experts, from plumbers to electricians.

Home improvements giant B&Q claims that at least 200 jobs could be created in Newtownards if plans for a new B&Q Warehouse store get the go-ahead. The DIY chain proposes to open a 100,000 sq ft store with a 30,000 sq ft garden centre and 20,000 sq ft building products yard on the site of the former Scrabo High School.

Construction has begun on the new 'Concept' Lidl store in Coleraine, marking the start of the supermarket chain's multimillion-pound initiative to revamp its retail estate throughout Northern Ireland.
