New North Down retail and leisure park given name
North Down's new retail and leisure park, which is to create 500 jobs during the period of the building works and an anticipated excess of 1,250 once open for trade, is to be known as the Holywood Exchange.
S Gordon Duffield, president of the Holywood Chamber of Trade & Commerce, confirmed that the new park would be a ‘win win’ situation for everyone involved with the town.
B&Q has already signed up to develop a 100,000 sq ft store incorporating a garden centre, while Sainsbury’s are to develop the supermarket site.
Initial work is expected to commence by the middle of May by which time both Sainsbury’s and B&Q should begin their developments. The retail terrace, which may contain names new to Northern Ireland, will be available for retailers to fit out their stores in the early part of 2003.
A bus service between the park and Holywood town centre is to be provided to facilitate a flow of shoppers between the two, with more than a quarter of a million visitors expected in the first year. (MB)
