Athlone lab to employ 30 within three years

The establishment of BioClin Research Laboratories in Athlone by a number of former Elan employees is expected to create 30 jobs inside the next three years.

BioClin will provide a range of research and development services for the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, veterinary and neutraceutical industries. The project has a total investment of 400,000 euro with equity support from Enterprise Ireland and plans to grow employment in the company from 11 staff at present to 30 in the next three years.

Announcing the investment Tánaiste Mary Harney said: "I welcome the establishment of BioClin, a new start-up with high growth potential. The company has a highly experienced team of scientific personnel with the ability to develop high quality, robust and sensitive analytical methodologies to support all stages of drug development. BioClin has already established a strong client base in Ireland and overseas and aims to provide vital support to pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies seeking to strengthen their research and development activities within Ireland".

Mary Burke, Managing Director of BioClin Research Laboratories said: "The support of Enterprise Ireland at this early phase of our operation is a critical factor in our start-up. We plan to aggressively grow our business and to become the preferred R&D partner for pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies with limited in-house resources in pre-clinical and Phase 1 study management and analysis. At present we are Ireland's largest certified Good Laboratory Practice, US FDA audited independent, contract bio analytical laboratory".

BioClin boasts state of the art equipment in the areas of mass spectrometry, chromatography and immuno chemistry and the latest laboratory Information Management Systems for sample management and electronic data handling.

Bio analytical services include: method development and validation; method transfer and optimisation; and high throughput sample analysis for a range of compounds from small molecules to protein and peptides.
