Motorway Phones Out Of Order
Motorway SOS phones across Northern Ireland will be out of order until 07:00 on 11 December, the PSNI has said.
Police and Transport NI are advising motorway users that all SOS phones along the hard shoulders of Northern Ireland's motorways have been switched off to allow for electrical maintenance in the police Urban Contact Management Centre.
Chief Inspector Diane Pennington explained: "Police will have additional resources patrolling the motorway network, with additional support from our Transport NI colleagues monitoring the network via CCTV cameras, but we are reminding the public that motorway hard shoulders should only be used in an emergency.
"While it is always best to try and drive to a safer place off the motorway if you can rather than stopping on the hard shoulder, in an emergency, pull on to the hard shoulder and stop as far to the left as possible, with the wheels of your vehicle turned to the left. Ensure your hand or footbrake is on, leave your sidelights on and switch on your hazard lights.
"If appropriate and there is room on the hard shoulder for you to stand away from traffic then you should leave the vehicle by the left-hand door and ensure all your passengers do the same and the use a mobile phone to call Police on 999 to alert us to your emergency.
"If you have reflective jackets in the vehicle wear them. Ensure that passengers keep away from the carriageway and hard shoulder, and that children are kept under control. It is best to retreat up the bank or behind a barrier if this is possible and await the arrival of Police."

First NI Motorway Service Stations Announced
Northern Ireland’s first ever motorway service stations have been granted planning permission. Currently, motorists have to leave the motorway in order to find a service station, but the two developments planned for the M2, along with the two to follow on the M1, will offer drivers direct slip road access from both directions.

Police Officers Disciplined For Failing To Tell Doctor About Woman's Head Injuries
Two police officers have been disciplined after they failed to let their colleagues and a police doctor know that a woman had sustained a head injury, a Police Ombudsman investigation has concluded. The woman died from bleeding to the brain on 24 February 2014, the day after she suffered the injury.

Police name motorway collision victim
Police have named the man who died on the M2 motorway yesterday afternoon. He was John Lawrence Wolff, aged 39, from Ballymena in County Antrim. The incident happened at 1.45pm yesterday afternoon on the northbound route out of Belfast, just before the Greencastle off-slip near Fortwilliam.

Two charged over child pornography
Two men arrested on Tuesday in connection with an investigation into child pornography in Northern Ireland have been charged with possessing and making indecent images of children. The men were arrested yesterday following a series of police raids investigating a major internet child pornography racket. They will appear in court at a later date.
