Plans Launch For York Street Interchange
A formal consultation process regarding the planned interchange at York Street in Belfast has been launched.
The project would see a potential investment of between £125m to £165m on one of the city's busiest junctions.
Construction on the project could take up to three years to complete.
Launching the consultation process, Transport Minister Danny Kennedy said: "Currently the York Street Interchange can have around 100,000 vehicles using it every day. The proposed improvements will separate strategic traffic from the local streets by providing direct vehicle links between the Westlink, the M2 and M3. Also included in the proposals is the construction of a new bridge to carry York Street traffic over the junction.
"This is one of the most ambitious schemes planned for Belfast for decades, and I would encourage everyone who cares about the development of our road infrastructure to get involved and take part in the public consultation process."
The consultation period opens tomorrow (Wednesday 28 January) and will remain open until Tuesday 10 march 2015. Depending on the response to the consultation, the Department for Regional Development has said a public inquiry into the scheme could take place later this year.
In addition, a public exhibition will also be held in the Ramada Encore where a scale model and computer generated graphics of the scheme will be on display on Monday 9 February from 2pm to 9pm and Tuesday 10 February from 10am to 9pm.
