Belfast man among winners of student film competition
Robbie Morrison from Belfast, along with Hazel Baillie and Charlotte Bates from Edinburgh, have been announced as the winners of a national film talent competition, jointly sponsored by Nokia and Orange as part of The Edinburgh International Film Festival.
The three young talented film-students from the Edinburgh College of Art have been chosen from film students across the nation to have their short film shown in front of every major movie shown at the film festival this August.
The competition, launched in June this year, asked film students from across the nation to produce a creative and entertaining 15-second promotional film 'sting' with the theme of ‘Movies and Mobiles’, whilst communicating the message, ‘please turn off your mobile phone’.
The Edinburgh students’ entry, entitled ‘Be Gone with the Phone’, takes a humorous look at how a ringing mobile phone in a cinema auditorium could steal a special movie moment. The students used ‘Gone with The Wind’ as inspiration for their entry, using the voice-over from the classic Rhett Butler and Scarlet O’Hara (‘Frankly my dear I don’t give a damn’) scene.
The winning team receive a £1000 cash prize in addition to having their work showcased at the festival, set to be viewed by up to 45,000 people including creative and film industry luminaries, over the course of the three-week festival.
