Teens Arrested Over City Centre Fights
Two boys aged 15 and 16 were arrested over the weekend after up to 100 teenagers gathered in Belfast city centre for what police believe was an organised fight.
Police were called to Royal Avenue in the city centre at about 22:45 on Friday night following reports that a large group of youths had congregated. Police said a number of the young teenagers appeared to be "squaring up to each other". It is understood the teenagers dispersed when police arrived but grouped again on Rosemary Street. Two girls aged 14 and 15 were cautioned following a fight. Police said they have spoken to the teenager girls parents.
Police were called again into the city centre on Saturday when up to 100 teenagers had gathered on Oxford Street. The two teenage boys were arrested on suspicion of riotous behaviour and criminal damage.
A police spokesperson urged parents to "make sure they know where their children are".
"Getting caught up in this type of criminal behaviour can result in a criminal record which is damaging to a young person's future," they added.
