Arsonists Attack Woman's Home In L'Derry

An arson attack has occurred on a pensioner's home in L'Derry.

Flammable liquid was poured through the letterbox of the property in Camelia Court and set on fire on Monday.

The woman, 70, was able to put out the fire, however scorch damage was caused to a door.

A gang of youths attacked police as they attended the incident. They smashed the rear windscreen of a police vehicle.

Fireman Hurt On Route To Derry 999 Call
A fireman has been seriously injured after the engine he was driving came under attack in Londonderry - but avoided crashing the speeding appliance. He was taken to hospital with glass in his eyes after the fire crew was responding to reports of a fire at a school on the Aileach Road. They came under attack and were pelted with bricks and bottles.

NIFRS Launches Online Home Fire Safety Check Tool
The Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) has introduced a new online tool to help residents assess their home fire safety. The Home Fire Safety Check coincides with Fire Safety Week, which runs from September 30th to October 6th. The initiative aims to reduce the number of house fires in Northern Ireland.

Man Shot In Co L'Derry
A man has been shot in the ankle in Co L'Derry. The paramilitary-style attack happened near the Creggan shops at around 7.45pm on Thursday, 07 December. The 41-year-old man has been taken to hospital to be treated, however his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. Police described the shooting as "brutal and horrific".

Recreation centre damaged in arson attack
Police are treating a fire at a recreation centre in County Down as malicious. The incident happened at a football club in the Langley Road area of Ballynahinch just before 3am this morning.

Spanish police arrest IRA bombing suspect
Spanish police have arrested a man in connection with the bombing of an army barracks in Lisburn eight years ago. Michael Gerard Rogan, 44, from Easton Avenue in north Belfast, was arrested in the holiday resort of Playa de las Americas in Tenerife on Monday.
