North Belfast Fire Started 'Deliberately'

A fire at an old factory site in north Belfast was started deliberately, according to the Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS).

Residents had to ensure their windows and doors were closed as firefighters were putting out the blaze in the Oldpark Road area on Wednesday.

Four appliances were needed to tackle the fire and the roof of the property was left badly damaged.

The fire has been extinguished and the police have launched an investigation.

ASSEMBLY CREATE AWARD TO HONOUR FIRE SERVICE
THE Northern Ireland Fire Service is to receive the first ever award given by the province's devolved assembly. An illuminated scroll is to be presented to Chief Fire Officer John McClelland on Tuesday, by assembly speaker Lord Alderdice in tribute to the sacrifice made by fire fighters over the years.

Four Arrested Following Disorder In South Belfast
Four men have been arrested following public disorder incidents in the university area of south Belfast on Thursday, November 14th. Police responded to a number of offences, including resisting and obstructing police, and assault on police. Three men, aged 18, 20, and 21, have been charged and are due to appear in court in December.

NIFRS Launches Online Home Fire Safety Check Tool
The Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) has introduced a new online tool to help residents assess their home fire safety. The Home Fire Safety Check coincides with Fire Safety Week, which runs from September 30th to October 6th. The initiative aims to reduce the number of house fires in Northern Ireland.

Pensioner 'badly shaken' after arson attack
An elderly woman has been described by police as "badly shaken up" after an arson attempt was made on her house in the early hours of this morning. Several hundred pounds worth of damage was caused to the property at Conneywarren Lane, in Ballysillan, north Belfast. It is not yet known how the fire was started.

Malicious fire at north Belfast school
Police in north Belfast are treating an overnight fire at a Primary school as "malicious." The incident happened just before 2am this morning at St Mary's Primary School on the Shore Road in Greencastle. Four fire appliances attended the scene and it took around two hour to bring the blaze under control.
