Colum Eastwood To Run For Leadership Of The SDLP
MLA Colum Eastwood has confirmed he will run for leadership of the Social Democratic and Labour Party (SDLP).
He also said that he will challenge Alasdair McDonnell at the party's annual conference in November.
Speaking to the BBC Mr Eastwood said his challenge "was not personal" and politics needed a "new generation".
He said: "I believe now is time for a new generation to take forward not only the party, but the future of the country."
Nine branches nominated him to challenge Dr McDonnell for the leadership.
